Day One: Grades: Elementary grade level 5th-6th Goal: Students will be able to identify the causes of the American Civil War. Objectives: 1. Students will be able to compare the cultures and economies of the Northern and Southern states. 2. Students will be able to summarize the main points of the Missouri Compromise, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the Declaration of Causes of the Seceding States. 3. Students will be able to discuss the actions of John Brown at Harpers Ferry and the reaction of the country. Materials: 1 Chart Paper 2 Sticky notes 3 Comparing Cultures and Economies Chart 4 Drawing Paper 5 Crayons 6 Scissors 7 Glue 8 Disunion Information Cards (with questions) 9 John Brown PowerPoint 10 Comparing Cultures and Economies Essay Procedure: 1 Ask: What is your favorite thing to do?
